| Barack Obama and Superman Statue |
This is a follow-up to
my post yesterday about Metropolis, Illinois. The photo to the right is a commonly-available one,
one of multiple photos from 2006.Barack Obama, of course, was a US Senator from Illinois, and before that a State Senator going back to 1997, so he had plenty of reason to travel around Illinois for campaign and other reasons. As for his pose, it seems like an obvious thing to do, and many like to stand by this statue and have their picture taken in such a pose.

| Metropolis Superman Statue |
I have seen this photo, with and without the caption, presented by both the President's detractors and supporters. To his detractors, it supports the idea that Obama thinks he is super-human and is full of himself. His supporters, who think the President is a super leader and awesome even if he is not super-human, like the photo.
The second photo puts the statue in more of a visual location context, and does not include the awesome (or not awesome) President. And yes, there is a postcard of this Superman statue.

I love Superman (yes, even more than Batman!)... Obama and his super-sized ego, not so much.
I think probably all these guys have an ego as big as all outdoors. Some like Jimmy Carter hide it better than others. Obama and Newt? Not near as well.
As for Batman, there is an even smaller town in Wisconsin called Gotham. I don't think they have taken Batman to heart, however. Gotham is located a ways south of Cylon.
By your command...
I agree. I think anyone with political aspirations, has to think a lot of themselves. You have to admit, running for president is a pretty ballsy thing to do.
I do like that Superman Statue! The whole Superman story too.
As for Obabma, I am super sorry that I voted for him last time around. He has been a Super Disappointment to me. This is only my personal opinion.
My father always used to say, "Anyone pathological enough to want to be President is insane, and thus, unqualified."
Metropolis ought to send superman faster than a speeding bullet due north to that little WI town
with the mysterious loud noises
at night. (my theory: Clintonville, named like the former pres/loud night noises/close to the little town
of embarrass...more likely than
an earthquake ..
Are they fracking in Clintonville? I have heard of it causing odd noises in Pennsylvania.
Remember the working definition here: A politician has a "big ego" if they support policies that don't jibe with your personal ideology, and "confidence" if you happen to agree with the politician's policies.
That might work for you, but not for me, W-Dervish. Hence my statement earlier about Jimmy Carter's humility and Newt Gingrich coming off as full of himself.
Other Presidential candidates I thought came across as decently humble: Paul Tsongas and Bob Dole.
Very full of themself? Ron Paul would be another.
Hillary, McCain, and Romney I'd count as somewhere in the middle.
I never was a fan of Superman. However, I would prefer him over Obama any day.
Heck, I would vote for the Easter Bunny over Obama.
I'd have pegged you for a Ron Paul fan.
W-Dervish: I tried to keep whether or not I was a "fan" of anyone out of this, but that is not the easiest thing. I actually don't think Barack Obama is any more arrogant than George W. Bush.
bush shamelessly lied us into two wars... and I find that incredibly arrogant. Romney thinks he can buy the presidency. IMO he's quite arrogant as well.
I haven't seen any evidence of Romney trying to buy anything. But the robocalls sure are annoying.
And what I had more in mind were perceptions of their "style" as opposed to opinion on controversial issues.
